Life is not always the way it is suppossed to be. It's the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference. As I look back on my life today I can say that is certainly true. I can't say that I've always coped with it well. It's interesting how smart we think we are when it comes to living life. I can't explain everything that has happened in my life to date. I do know that what we tend to do is blame someone and usually the last person we look at is ourselves. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that everything that happens in life is your fault, but I will go so far as to say how you respond to the victories and the disappointments in life is 100% our responsibility. Man can spend His life time looking for the explanation for the things that happen in Life. He can blame God, and others. He can choose to live in the seat of judgement that does not belong to Him; just ask some of Job's friends. God ultimately holds all wisdom and He reveals what He chooses to reveal. We would all do ourselves a great service by leaving the judgement up to God. If there is any lesson in life I beleive it is is this - Worship God, Praise Him in the storm. If there is anything that we can take from the book of Job it is that when the unexplainable happens we have one responsibility, and that is to worship God for who he is and know that in the end (I beleive that is this side of Heaven) he will restore. The bible is very clear that God is not the enemy; He is on our side. Jesus said, "If you seen me you have seen the Father." not "If you have seen Job (the life of a man) you have seen the Father". Jesus was saying to us don't look at life's experiences to discover the nature of God, look at my life. He went about doing good. Don't build your theology about God around Job, build it around Jesus. Hold God in reverence at the center of your life. Walk humbly before Him and carefully srutinize and examine and test your own conduct to the standard of His Word. Let the judgements go today and stop speaking evil against God and others. Let me add one more thing... I believe that we should do everything to stand strong and fight the good fight of faith when the winds of turmoil are blowing around us. I believe that God has given man an incrediable amount of authority in this life and I for one will continue to stand and having done everything to stand I will still be standing in the end. Because no matter what happens God is good and He will restore. The reality is Life happens, but when we hold onto our faith in God things change and we begin to happen to LIFE!!!

How many times do we miss opportunities in life? Perhaps the better questions is, "How many times do we fail to see the opportunities in life?" I remember a friend I use to work with who was dismissed from the organization. Obviously an unexpected event. Art had always been a passion in this individuals life, however it wasn't until a door was shut in her life that God opened up another door which launched them into a whole new dimension of living their passion and dream. She is a tremendous artist whom I have had the privilege of studying under. Some people believe that everything that happens in life is orchestrated by God. I do not happen to be a proponent of this philosophy, however I do believe that everything that happens is an opportunity for greater things to happen. You see when it comes to art, God is a master at taking the things in life that are meant to destroy us and turn them into something good. How does he do it? Well one thing is for sure he doesn't do it independently of us. It takes us being willing to accept what is, and move forward with the attitude that if God is for us who can be against us. I am convinced today that what appears as a failure is simply an opportunity to succeed. Someone once said that problems are stepping stones to greater opportunities. I, like you, have had my share of disappointments, but this one thing I know, I am not looking back. I am pressing forward toward the tremendous opportunities that await me. I am going through the door with faith and hope in a God who is able to take everything and make it work for good. Seize the Moment!!!

Perhaps no emotion is more destructive than guilt. It causes a loss of self-respect. It causes the human spirit to wither, and it eats away at our personal significance. Guilt is a strong motivation, but it plays on our fears of failure and rejection; therefore, it can never ultimately build, encourage, or inspire us in our desire to live for God. Honestly a lot of what is taught in the pulpits across America is a guilt based gospel. Although God convicts us, His conviction is not intended to produce pangs of guilt. Our status and self-worth are secure by the grace of God, and we are no longer guilty. Conviction deals with our behavior, not our status before God. Conviction is always driven by the motivation of love, correction, and protection, while guilt brings depression, bitterness and despair. So much of life is based on performance, yet it is just the opposite in our walk with God. Even though our performance may often fall short, we have been given incredible favor with God and stand in Christ complete and forgiven. I know I have done things wrong, I know that at times I have been destructive in my life, but I know that no matter what, I have a Father who is continually pleased with me. Learn to live guilt free.

It has been awhile since my last blog. I think I have said that before. It has been five weeks since my resignation of Lifepoint Church. I have to admit it has been a bitter - sweet experience for me. Leaving full time ministry after pouring twenty-five plus years of your life into it can leave an emptiness. I have said many times in response to people that this is truly more about my own journey of faith than anything else. Don't miss understand me, I am very much committed to my friend and Savior. I truly feel his hand in mine walking this path I am on. I know that this place I find myself is the one thing that is right for me. I think that is the sweet part. ISN'T THAT CRAZY!!!!!! As far as the emptiness goes, well as for all of us, He has to fill that. So what am I learning walking this path? I am learning that God's love is unconditional. WOW! It's amazing how much of our fulfillment in life comes from what we do and more importantly what others think about it. I am learning to appreciate the small things in life. I am learning how to trust Him more. I am learning the tension of transition. I am learning that my wife is my best friend and will always believe in me and be there for me. I am learning to embrace every moment of life as a gift and more than anything enjoy the ride. I am learning no matter what, keep walking....

It is rare in our society today to find men of character and integrity. Bob Holyfield was such a man. Bob went home to be with the Lord on Thursday at the age of 68. He and his wife Judy were married 48 years and raised to great sons, Robby and Bobby Holyfield. Bob was a man who was comfortable in his skin. He was the real deal. There was no pretense about him. I like to think of him as a gentle giant. He was a man of honor and a man of few words, at least the negative ones. I can honestly say that I have never heard him say an unkind word about anyone. I guess the less we talk the less we have to repent of. I for one will miss Bob and the smell of his Polo cologne. But I know one more has moved to the grand stand of heaven and is rooting us on in our journey of faith on this earth. As for me I am going to keep running the race. Be sure and keep Judy and the family in your prayers in their time loss.

I know some are wondering what I am doing? What kind of business are you starting? The name of my new company is Sureway Transportation. In short it is a truck brokerage business. I am very excited about this new venture in life and look forward to building a successful business. I don't think for one minute that God has called be to be a truck broker. I do believe it is time for me to step away from full-time ministry, at least for a season. It is certainly clear that I have a responsibility to provide for my family. This business is simply an avenue for me to do that. My identical twin is here this week helping me set everything up. He has been in this business four years and God has blessed his endeavors. Watch out Malvern there are two of us in town this week. By the way if you see me around town and I don't speak to you, it probably wasn't me. My office is located in the Edward Jones building downtown. Someone asked me the other day if God would be mad at them regarding a decision they had to make if they made the wrong one. My immediate response was absolutely not. It is sad to me that as children of God we gravitate toward a Father who is looking for a chance to be mad at us. I believe that when we are endeavoring with everything in us to please God, He blesses whatever we set our hand to do. I think the weighter things like love, kindness, giving, and service are so much more important to God than whether we make a right decision or not. When our lives are built around Christ we please Him, even when we make mistakes. I know for me right now this is right, and what else can any of us do, but to do our best to follow God. It takes faith to step out in a new venture, but I truly believe that God will take care of us. At men's breakfast the other day Floyd Parker pointed out a cute little rubber duckie on one of the tables and how it made him smile. By the way, let me make something very clear, we normally don't have rubber duckies as our table setting for mens breakfast. The ladies had set up the fellowship hall for a baby shower. I love that story because I believe God smiles at us, and that makes us smile. On the contrary God is not mad at you. I know He smiles on me, and that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside...

For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom his whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge - that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. May God wrap His arms around you Lifepoint family. We love you.... AMEN!

Proverbs 10:19 says, “When words are many, sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue is wise.” I don’t know about you, but I love to talk, in fact at times a can really control the conversation especially after a good “Espresso” Here's a verse that will step on your toes! Where words are many, sin is not absent. What's that all about? What kind of words? Words that are empty and void of substance...words that are full of anger, bitterness and resentment...words that are full of pride, ego and "it's all about me"… words that are arrogant rants, selfish tantrums, opinionated outbursts...words that are insensitive, hurtful, critical, damaging...words that are out of place, inappropriate, lacking in judgment...How do you avoid talking too much? It’s really easy, well maybe not…. be slow to speak and quick to listen. The old saying is true, “what goes around comes around.” If you think your words don’t come around full circle, you are sadly mistaken. If you think the person you are sharing gossip with is not telling someone else until the person you are talking about hears it, you are wrong. What was it that kept the children of Israel out of the promised land? It was their words – they murmured and complained. The second time around God said, this is not going to happen again. To put His words in our language God said, “Shut-up and march.” Are people running from you? Not answering your calls? Avoiding contact? Could be a "words" problem. Be sensible and turn off the flow!

One of the most costly coffee beans in the world is the Kopi Luwak which sales for three hundred dollars a pound. Only one thousand pounds of this coffee, at most, make it to the world market every year. Kopi Luwak, the world’s most exotic bean, comes from only one place on the earth: the island of Sumatra in Indonesia in a region known as Java. The word kopi is Indonesian for “coffee.” Luwak is Indonesian for the cat, a palm civet that is involved in the process of harvesting this bean. About the size of a fox, the luwak is a nocturnal, fruit-eating cousin of the mongoose. It roams at night over the island of Sumatra and only picks the most perfect, ripe coffee cherries to eat. The civet cat then defecate the undigested coffee cherries in sausage like links, and local harvesters dig in the rainforest floor and river banks looking for the civet cat dung. They wash the clumps until only the beans are left, which then are dried in the sun. Isn’t it amazing how God works? He can turn buried trash into buried treasure. The Hebrew word for “hell” was Sheol. Heaven was Shiloh. God can turn any Sheol into a Shiloh. The dominant story of the Scriptures is the story of how God takes what is worst, least, and most contemptible and does what is greatest, best, and strongest. Remember, treasure chests can be hammered out of trash cans. Only God can make that kind of coffee.
