I Dare You to be Honest

I don't know how many times I have read the book of Proverbs, yet it continually refreshes me.  This incredible slice of Gods wisdom gives us insight into the fundamental principles that govern our personal and professional life.  This book challenges me in the hard places of my life.  It forces me daily to look myself in the mirror and make changes that potentially could cost me everything.  Here's an example, "Better to be poor and honest than to be dishonest and a fool." (Proverbs 19:1).  I believe in the law of "cause and effect".  For every action there is a consequential reaction. If you pick up one end of the stick you also pick up the other end.  This proverb becomes a daily challenge for me in the business community.  The movtivating factor behind any business is to succeed financially.  I truly believe that.  Proverbs is filled with foundational principles that are key to business success.  Here's one, "Be honest".  Being honest may cost you financially.  That's the change that potentially could cost me everything.  I may lose a deal, because I couldn't follow through for a client.  I could lie and tell the customer it was another individuals failure to come through. However, in reality I promised what I could not deliver.  The consequence is I may lose them as a client by being honest.  Proverbs say, it's better to lose a deal, disappoint a client, or suffer financial setback, than it is to be considered a fool for not telling the truth.  It makes more sense in the long run to experience a financial hiccup through honesty, then to enjoy closing the deal dishonestly.  Real financial success is a result of operating in biblical principles.  I have had to bite the bullet, be honest, and ultimately loose a customer.  However, I have also found people admire an individual that will be upfront and honest in these trubulent days.  God's ideal of long term success in any endeavor can be achieved by weaving honesty in your daily choices.  Father, help me today to live your kingdom.  I, like everyone, struggle with the looming pressure to succeed at the cost of character.  Help me today to get it right.  Change always cost something, but in the end you will be blessed.  Keep it real!!
