Sunday Update

Sunday, 22 June 2008 16:40 by ronnie
Man did Perry Noble hit a home run today or what?  His message "Make Us Dangerous" was great.  This series "One Prayer" has been great.  I know that it is operating out of a different paradigm to listen to a message every week by video.  I appreciate everyone that has made an effort to be in each of these services.  The worship was great today. Micheal, Shawn, Dave, Bob, Chris and Brenda... what can I say, but we are blessed at Lifepoint.  I appreciate the time and effort you guys put in every week.  It was off the charts in my book today.  My heart was moved and my passion stirred.  Thanks for just always being you.  Jeremy thanks for keeping it all running smooth with the technical side of things.  Everyone needs one of you, not two though, that might be a little much. (HA) I appreciate the Lifepoint family and the fact that you want to make a difference and are not content to just do this Christian thing as usual.  I know that we are making a difference.  Let's follow Jesus, listen to Jesus, and believe in Jesus.  God "Make Us Dangerous".

Indulge...

Saturday, 21 June 2008 08:37 by ronnie
Have you every just indulged yourself.  Weill that's exactly what I did last night.  I went to Little Rock with Janet and Anna to look at some apartments with Mallory.  I had been thinking about indulging myself for several weeks and after dinner I decided to do so.  It was something I did on purpose, believe me it was not impulsive at all.  I think that is the key to a liitle indulging in life.  Don't be impulsive.  I have to tell you those four Krispy Kreme hot donuts were sure good.

Make it Something

Friday, 20 June 2008 08:57 by ronnie
I would encourage you to read the entire chapter of Psalm 84.  I have been reading it everyday since May 1st.  It is amazing what you can find in the word of God every time you read.  Something that literally leaped out of the page this morning was just one word; MAKE.  It is found in verse six, and it reads, "...they make it a place of springs". It refers to the "Valley of Baca".  The word "Baca" means drip hence it is associated with weeping. When I think of a drip it says continual, sometimes even an annoyance.  If there is anything I know I about the valley's, weeping is generally associated with them.  The truth is weeping is a good thing.  It is a natural response to trouble or despair in our lives.  I think the question you and I have to ask is how long have we been there?  The Bible says MAKE your valley a place of springs.  When I think of springs I think of life, more importantly I think of living life fully.  The question is what are you making out of your valley?  For me I am making it a learning experience.  I am making it a growing experience.  I am making it a renewal to a better place, a place of discovery and reflection.  I am seeing springs of life around me and I am forced to rejoice.  What the Bible does not say is "take" it in the valley, nor does it say to "fake" it in the valley.  I believe God wants us to be real.  I am not talking about some hyper-faith mode we shift into.  The word very simply is they MAKE it a place of springs.  I cannot always control the things that happen, but I am determined that I am going to MAKE IT!  What you are going through has nothing to do with who you are and what you are called to do as a Christ-follower.  Whatever comes my way I am going to make life about the Kingdom and I'm am determined to live it to the fullest.

One Prayer

Thursday, 19 June 2008 04:07 by ronnie
I have been stirred by the One Prayer series in our church.  It is awesome to see church's come together crossing denominational lines and theological differences to worship together.  Lifepoint Church is just one of many church's joining together in this series.  Jesus spent much time praying for this day.  Don't misunderstand, I believe we have a way to go in the church before we become the fulfillment of the "Make Us One" prayers that Jesus prayed, but I am encouraged to see the beginnings of an awesome time in the church.  The church coming together as one is all about synergy.  Synergy is strength through diversity.  We may do things differently, but the reality is that we are all climbing the same mountain.  God knows that what we do together accomplishes so much more than what we can accomplish by ourselves.  Our daughter and son-in-law just came back from a trek up a 14,000 foot mountain in Colorado.  They were with a group of young people who split up into six groups.  Each group had a guide who directed them up the mountain.  Depending on what group you were with determined what view you had on your way up the mountain.  However when each group got to the top they all had the same view.  One group wasn't right and one group wrong in the journey to the top.  When they got to the top one group wasn't saying to the other well you came up the wrong way, our way was better.  No the bottom line is when they reached the summit they were in awe of the view.  The church is similar to this journey I just described.  When we all get to the summit we will all be in awe of the "King of Kings".  Our common ground as the church is that we are climbing the same mountain, who cares how we get there.  God help us to focus on the summit, help us to love each other and not be judgmental of others.  God Make Us One.  Don't miss One Prayer at Lifepoint this weekend.

BBO or is it just BO

Tuesday, 17 June 2008 13:43 by ronnie

I know you have heard of BO and BBQ, but what the heck is BBO?  It's called Blog Burn Out.  I'm not sure it's a term that has ever been used before, but I can tell you that I have experienced it.  You probably have figured that out since it's been a while since I've written.  Life has just been busy, but honestly I just haven't wanted to write about anything.  I don't know maybe I am experiencing a little BO.  I know you thought that meant body order, but it means burn-out.  I think all of us get frustrated with life sometimes.  It's just the natural cycle of things.  I mean sometimes this ministry thing just gets to be to much.  Or maybe your thing is something else...the bottom line is it gets all twisted and mangled and we just don't want to deal with it anymore. I know that life is to complicated, and our priorities are whacked up sometimes.  Hey, but here is the good news, I am back.  So how do we end up here... I mean in this burn out place.  How do we end up with BO or BBO?  I think it's because we forget that Christ is life and the rest are details.  We forget the main thing.  I love God.  I love how He always brings us back to the right place.  I don't know maybe it takes a while, but He does it and more importantly we eventually follow.  Jesus had building the Kingdom of God locked squarely in His sights.  When we lose that, when our focus shifts to our kingdom and not His we go BO.  I love him and I love His kingdom.  It's really that simple.  We have a sender who has given us a message to give to a people.  That's really what it's all about.  Take a walk with the amazing one today. For right now I am BOB.  That is Back on Board, Back on Blog, or Back off Bro...

Pastoral Delusion (Two for the price of One)

Tuesday, 10 June 2008 14:36 by ronnie

I cannot think of anything more fulfilling than being a Pastor.  Nothing blesses my heart more than seeing individuals lives changed.  Transformation is an amazing thing to watch even in my own life. While living life as a pastor certainly has its rewards it can also be filled with high expectations not only from myself but others.  As I continue thinking about some of the misconceptions that people can have I realize one of the greatest is the role of the Pastor's wife. I guess it depends on what the expectations were in the church you were raised in.  For many she was the piano player, the organist, the prayer group leader, the ladies bible study leader, etc..., I have to say for me she is my wife and the mother of my children.  I'm not sure where the scriptural foundation is that substantiates that ministry is two for the price of one.  What I mean by that is that many church leaders tend to think that when you hire the pastor you hire his wife as well.  I find no place in the New Testament to support that the pastors wife is responsible for the church.  Don't misunderstand me I believe ministry involves the family.  My family has made many sacrifices for me to fulfill the call of God.  And I certainly believe that the bible is clear regarding the ministers family, especially when it comes to the qualifications for effective ministry.  No one genuinely loves and cares for people more than my wife, however her number one priority is her family.  When it comes to her role as a wife and mother she is above the bar.  If the truth be told she makes me a better pastor.  I am thankful for a Godly wife who loves her husband, family, and church.  OK maybe she is not around at every event, (There is not many things she misses) but she is around for the main event.  I am not writing on this subject because there have been any issues or discussions.  I just know that many pastors wives live under the microscope of boards and church members and for them ministry becomes a burden.  I am thankful for Lifepoint Church and the genuine love and acceptance you show my wife.  I trust that as Christ followers we can rid ourselves of some of the misconceptions where Pastors and their families are concerned.

Pastoral Delusion (One) con't

Sunday, 8 June 2008 16:46 by ronnie
I started to write about another pastoral delusion, but I just had some things to add to the first delusion.  I have had people get upset and leave because I didn't call them.  I go back to my initial thought that the pastor is expected to be in touch with everyone all the time.  I wish I were the Messiah, but I'm not.  I have always said, the sad thing is not that the Pastor didn't call, but that nobody called.  Stop and think about.  You have a church full of people and nobody missed you, or at least if they did they didn't call.  Of course there is always the question what are you in church for anyway.  The word "church" means "called out".  We have this misconception in the church that we go to church every week for ourselves.  Why do people "church hop" or "church shop"?  Neither one of them are accurate.  It's like we are looking for the place that gives us everything we need.  How about going out and giving the world what they need.  We are all called to build relationships, bridges if you will, to people in our community.  Instead of going to church and expecting the Pastor to give what no one person can give, why not be the church to a world that desperately needs to see the love of Jesus.

Sunday Update

Sunday, 8 June 2008 16:22 by ronnie
Had a great service today.  Kicked off the "One Prayer" Series last week and this week was the first video message.  Pastor Craig Groeschel of Lifechurch.tv. spoke.  It was incredible to think that over 1,300 churches were participating.  The message was great and the people were really connected.  It is hard to know whether people will connect with a message via video or not, but I felt really good about it.  I think some people stayed away because it was a video message.  You guys missed it.  Craig nailed it with his three points, one enemy, one heart, one purpose.  I love the thought regarding the difference between the word "united" and "untied". The difference is where the "i" is. Unity in the church begins with "me".  I am looking forward to next week.  It is great to have Michael and the team leading during each of these messages.  You guys are awesome. I think the cool thing about this series is everything in the service remains the same, except the message.  I actually had one lady tell me they were not going to be here next week and wanted the message on DVD if possible.  The 'One Prayer" message is what the church needs to be hearing in our day.  The unchurched perception of the church is alarming and the church needs to wake up and realize we have to change it. I can't wait until next week.

Pastoral Delusion (One)

Saturday, 7 June 2008 09:15 by ronnie

I was visiting with a minister the other day and we were discussing the common misconceptions that people have regarding Pastors.  I'm not talking about non-church individuals, but church members.  I decided I would write about some of these over the next few weeks.  Now I realize that I may shoot some sacred cows, but... oh well I'm diving off into the deep.  A common misconception is the pastor should always be there for me.  If you just stop and think about that you will begin to realize the impossibility of that actually happening.  Can you imagine one person being available to everyone 24/7?  When I read the scripture I find only one who has such capability.  Any guesses as to who that might be?  I believe that a Pastor is called primarily to take the oversight of God's people. He is sent to be a guide, to be a voice, to lead, to equip, and to encourage.  Paul said, it well in Ephesians 4:11-13. Pastors are called to equip God's people to do the work of the ministry.  It is a common misconception in Christian's minds that the Pastor is called to take care of everything and do everything.  The tragedy in the church is that God's people who are called to carry the responsibility, care and encouraging of each other have put all of the load on the Pastor.  The bible is clear to point out when one hurts we all hurt, and when one rejoices we all rejoice.  We should all be so vitally connected with each other that we take notice of others.  Let me just say it this way the Pastor is called to Shepherd the flock of God.  A shepherd does not eat for the sheep, he provides the pasture.  A shepherd does not drink for the sheep, he provides the water.  Sheep must walk for themselves, they must follow the example set before them.  I love the video game Wii (pronounced we).  I think the problem in the church today is we have failed to move from a me (the Pastor) to a Wii (the people) mentality.  We are all a part of Christ body and we must all be doing our part, verses getting bent out of shape because the Pastor is not doing everything.  What God wants is that we learn to play Wii in the church.
