I have to confess I sometimes find myself in this place. Spending more time doing the things that are less significant. I love reading blogs, looking at websites, watching movies, doing busy church stuff etc..., but no time to read the bible, pray, spend quality time with family. I am a planner, but I don't always practice what I preach. I am working on that area. How often in life do we get caught up in the thick of the thin? How often are we investing in what will not have the greatest benefit. Hey, don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with these things if we keep them in moderation. It's just that we can't neglect the other. I know I need to start the right thing, but I first have to stop the wrong thing, or at least to much of the wrong thing. Did I say the wrong thing? But I just said there is nothing wrong with these things. I think I am confusing myself and perhaps that is the problem. Human nature is prone to gravitate to-wards guilt. I believe the most difficult thing in life is living free of the "G" word. I know that feeling guilty only makes us feel more guilty. I woke up today investing in the eternal, doing the things that I cannot neglect in my life. I feel like I am caught up in the right thing for now and I feel good, that's the right "G". Hey who knows I may watch a movie today, but it will be right. Seize the moment and feel right about it.

God wants us fixing what is broken down and restoring it to it's original position. That is conversion. God is not just interested in people, he is interested in the culture in which we live. The church sees pop-culture as the enemy, God sees it as potential. I love the story of Zacchaeus. Here is a guy who was caught up in the culture of his day. He was making money, living the good live, but miserable. Everything changed the day he met Jesus, a true conversionist. Jesus really asked nothing of Zach, He simply loved him. The life of Jesus so impressed Zacchaeus that he gave half of everything he had taken unjustly back into the economy. Have you ever thought how the economy changed in that region? You talk about an economic stimulus plan. Just as a side note, I am looking forward to the economic stimulus check that is to be coming in the mail soon. It's interesting that no matter what a persons political position may be they are not turning down free money. Oh well back to the story.... when God changed Zacchaeus, God used him to convert the culture around him. I believe that is what God is doing in our world today through the church. We must be about doing everything we can to reachout to the culture of our day. Rather than hating pop-culture why not infuse it with the Love of God?

Dirty Jobs is a program on the Discovery Channel in which host Mike Rowe is shown performing difficult, strange, and/or messy occupational duties alongside professional workers. I was thinking about Joseph of Aramathea in the Bible. This is the prominent business man who came to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus after he had been crucified. You talk about a dirty job. Can you imagine what the body of Christ must have looked like, after an endless beating and a horrible crucifixion, not to mention the labor it took for this man to dig out a tomb suitable to put the body in. Joseph literally moved the body of Christ from death to life. I believe that is exactly what God is calling us to do. The Bible refers to the church as the Body of Christ. I believe that the church today is dead when it comes to being relevant with the issues that people are facing in their lives. Most of us as Christ - followers are comfortable just going to church and living our easy lives, while people around us are hurting. I don't say that in a judgmental way, because I know it is not something we do intentionally, it's just the sway of they. It's just the way it is. I believe that God is looking for people who don't mind getting dirty, people who don't mind reaching down into the muck and mire of humanity and making a difference. For to long the church has been "STUCK". But what is it going to take to make a change? Hard working men and women who are doing what it takes to reach people. If you are going to be a part of moving the Body of Christ for death to life you have to be willing to buy in to it. It's not easy. How hard was it for Joseph to carve out and dig out a place for the Body of Christ to have a habitation in that city? How about in your city? It takes some sweat equity to build a church. It takes some people willing to role up their sleeves and say, whatever it takes I'm going to do my part. Ministry is a four letter word, "STAY". Joseph understood if you're going to build a great church you have to stay. The greatest ability is stick-ability. You just have to get in, dig it out, and stay. It's a dirty job.

I started my day yesterday waking up with the love of my life, and seeing three of my most treasured possessions Mallory, Camille, and Anna. From there it was off to Bankruptcy Court (something I thought I would never be apart of). Those of you that know me, understand the circumstances surrounding this deep well of financial upheaval due to an investment with a company that is now under federal investigation. Those of you who don't, well the only thing I would ask is trust me it's not where I wanted to be. After that I did a funeral service for a family who had lost a father in a tragic automobile accident. This man had lived a life of emotional turmoil. Funerals are one of those things that make all of us reflect on the important thing in life, the love of God for humanity and how earnestly He seeks after us. In the service as I was readying Isaiah 41: 31, "But those who wait for the Lord, shall change and renew their strength and power: they shall lift their wings and mount up as eagles... (it was at this point that a Hawk was soaring overhead, for all the family to see) they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired." I love how God has a way of illustrating His love for us through nature. Call it coincidence, not me, I call the hand print of God at just the time when people needed to see it. From there it was off to the new Starbucks in Malvern. I sat with a guy who had a three year addiction to meth, cocaine, and Valium. He has been free for twelve years and loves Lifepoint Church. And yet another glaring example of the complete work that Jesus wants to do in all of our lives. After coffee, which by the way Mallory you did a great job of making my tall, double-shot, sugar free vanilla, soy, macchiato, iced latte, I was back home for prom pictures with Camille. I have to say that she looked absolutely beautiful. Now I am back to one of my most treasured possessions, my children. Quickly after the pictures Janet and I rushed off to do a wedding at 6:30 for a couple in the church. What a cool thing to see God bring two people together. It was an awesome time. At 8:00 we were back home to watch Arkansas beat Indiana. What a gamut of emotions a day can produce. I wouldn't say that is the typical day of a pastor, but it was yesterday. Looking back on it I realize two things, everyone has a story, and people go through stuff. Some of it good and some of it painful. All around us are individuals who are living difficult lives at times, and we as the church have been sent to minister a message of hope, love, and compassion. I wonder sometimes how aware we are of what's around us in a day? I was yesterday, perhaps because I was forced to be. I guess what I mean is I didn't happen on the Bankruptcy Court, it called me. It was the phone call from the family member that prompted the funeral. I did schedule the appointment at Starbucks, however, the Prom was something that had been scheduled and the wedding well that asked me to marry them. I know that it sounds a little simplistic, but life happens all around us and so many times we miss it. In reflecting back I choose to say, "I am Blessed". When I see the suffering of humanity my heart breaks. I know that people have hard and difficult lives to work through. But I also know that it is only God's goodness that brings any of us through. Thank you Father for letting me see your hand in so many ways yesterday. We are all playing on the same field in the same game and we need each others help. Well its just another day, or is it?

I spoke today at First Presbyterian as part of their Holy Week services. I had an awesome time as people from so many different denominations came together to worship. It always blesses me to see the Body of Christ come together. It is not an easy thing to pull off in our community. Hats of to Pastor Carl McCormick and the people at First Presbyterian for making it happen. How good it is when people come together in unity. It's what makes church happen.

I am amazed at the goodness of God today. I think of all the options He had in dealing with our lives, many which would have cost much less than the one he chose. I mean why not just forget about us, why not let us do it on our own since that is really the way we want it? He could have easily left us in our fallen state. He could have said it's not worth the price. He could have just as easily turned His back on us forever leaving us in darkness. But He didn't. He chose the road of sacrifice, the journey of the unfamiliar by entering into our world and living as a common man. Can you imagine God living as a human? But He did. He experienced every aspect of life that you and I live. He lived life among the fearful, the hurting, the downcast, the outcast, the hurting, the distressed, the dejected, the insecure, and the amazing thing is He lived among them as God. A perfect God among the imperfection of humanity, and what was missing from his vocabulary was judgment and criticism. How is it that in life we humans feel the right or the position to judge, when God among us chose not to do so? When he confronted the woman caught in adultery he chose not to cast a stone of criticism, even though by his own words he left the door open for that option. He was the only person in the crowd that day who had not sinned and yet he walked away dropping the same rocks that those who accused her possessed. The difference He was God and we are not. It is impossible to hang out with Him daily and not be amazed at His tremendous unfailing love. Jesus He's a friend forever. I'm hanging out with him today.

Your ability to act on your highest priorities comes from 10-15 minutes spent each day planning. Throughtdaily planning you focus all your energy and power on answering two questions. What are the highest priorites for me today and of these which do I value moost? Planning daily involves checking today's appointments, making a realistic task list, and prioritizing. The importance behind checking today's appointments is you cannot spend time you do not have. After appoitments, how much time is left: Plan for no more than 65% of that time, and remember to allow for opportunity, flexibility, and spontaneity. Some interruptions, and I emphasis the word some, are divine appointments in disguise. Finally, prioritize your task. Give each task value, by assigning an A, B, or C; high importance, medium importance, or low importance. The act of assigning value gives us an opportuity to get very clear on where we need to focus our attention and energy. Assigning each task a number completes and fine tunes today's plan. establishing sequence helps you see not only the value of the task, but the order that will be most effective. Make a commitment this week to plan daily for 10-15 minutes |

I heard the following story today about a young lady that was recently arressted for having a meth lab setup in her car. Guess what was found in the car? A "Get Out of Jail Free" Easter invitation card from Lifepoint Church. That is so awesome. My heart breaks for young people who are bound by addictions. I know that Jesus wants to reach this community and bring people out of the desperate places in life. Pray for this young lady that God will break through the walls of oppression. And whoever gave this young lady the card, thankyou for caring for people. Don't ever under estimate the power of a seed. I believe this young lady will remember that someone loved her enough to invite her to church. Someone in the church is listening to the right they. Keep handing out those cards you never know what kind of impact it will have.

Well here it is, the very first Starbucks. I have to say it was a very inspirational moment. It's hard to beleive that the franchise was established in 1971. It is amazing to think what this company has done in a really short amount of time. I brought home a special blend that is only sold in the orginal store. I am really going to take my time drinking it. Janet and I had a great time in Seattle. We were refreshed, inspired, encouraged, and challenged. I believe that we are at a next level opportunity at Lifepoint Church. I am going to be talking more in our "Stuck?" about what it's going to take from all of us, if we are going to see peoples lives changed in our community. While we have enjoyed a season of great growth at Lifepoint, we cannot allow ourselves to become stagnant. We must continue to re-evaluate, re-direct, and re-fire the vision that God has given us. It is going to take greater sacrifice from all of us to do what I beleive that God wants to do here. We are at that time!!!! You really do not want to miss our series beginning March 30th. Speaking of services, don't forget Easter Sunday. YOU are the key to peoples lives being changed. Don't forget your "GET OUT OF JAIL FREE" invitation cards. You can pick them up during our week-end service. Looking forward to tomorrow, "The Sway of They". Here's something to think about, "What did they influence you to do that you would not have done if they hadn't been around?" Be sure and join us as we define who they are, and why "they" have such influence in our lives. |
